William Gay transformed from an overlooked tight end into a cornerstone of Detroit's legendary "Silver Rush" defensive line, establishing himself as one of the franchise's most versatile and productive pass rushers during the late 1970s and 1980s. Born on May 28, 1955, in San Francisco, California, Gay attended Hoover High School in San Diego, where he played defensive end and tight end.
